Tenterden in Kent Town Guide

Birch Family

I believe that a George and Florrie Birch settled in Tenterden after the 1911 census. She was born in 1884 and he in 1894 both in SE London. They may have lived in Batten Mount. They may have also managed a pub in the area. I would be very interested to hear if anyone knows about them.

Hello Peter, I believe George Birch was the landlord of the Crown Inn at St. Michaels from 1938 until about 1953. In the bar of the pub today there is a photograph of George standing outside the pub in about 1939.

    Hello Colin.
Many many thanks for the information. George was my great uncle and I don’t have a photo of him so an urgent visit to Tenterden is a must.
    Regards, Peter

    Hello Maria,
    And Cousin!
Many thanks for the message. We visited the pub last week and saw the picture. Have since been in touch with Colin who was very helpful.
I have been researching the Birch family (mother’s maiden name)for years and would be very happy to send you details of George’s ancestry if you want it. Was your grandmotehr the only child of george? If so is her name Joyce? Give her my regards as a sort of nephew! I would be interested to hear about her if you/she would be happy to talk.
    Regards
    Peter
