Born into the great line of Kouyate Griot in Southern Senegal, Kadialy Kouyate’s kora playing and singing style has been appreciated in many prestigious venues including the Royal Festival Hall, the O2 Arena, the National Theatre, the Royal Albert Hall and Clarence House. Kadialy has played venues and festivals across the world, with extensive tours in Europe, Australia, Asia, as well as North and South America.
Since arriving in the UK, Kadialy has played a significant part in enriching the London musical scene with his griot legacy. He has taught the kora at SOAS for the last decade and contributed to countless musical projects. He has toured with theatre projects with the London Globe Theatre, Oily Cart, and RSC’s production of Julius Caesar. In 2015 he took part in the remaking of the TV series Roots as a musician, cultural consultant, and dialect coach.
Kadialy makes regular appearances on radio and television and has released several albums. His latest album “Terri Kunda” ā House of Friendship ā is a collaboration with Gao Hong and has attracted outstanding accolades including two gold medals at the Global Music Awards and a 5-star rating from Songlines Magazine.
With his sound archive, Kadialy Kouyate draws on his heritage and its traditional songs to create his own mesmerising compositions, leading his fantastic band into the West African groove.
Food will be available from specialist caterers serving world cuisine during the event and will need to be booked in advance. Bring your own picnic chairs and mats. Toilets will be available.
Performances may be recorded for live streaming at a later date. You are welcome to arrive early for a walk in some of the beautiful AONB countryside around us.
You will need to register and reserve your place before the event. There is limited capacity so please book early to avoid disappointment. Donations are most welcome and can be made after you have registered when we will send you a link. Suggested donations – Ā£9, Ā£7 for food.
